Dear Sir / Madam,
THE
The Security Guards Get Top Marks
On 16. June
2003. at the Fadd-Dombori Harbour on the River Danube in Southern Hungary three
security guards have tortured a dog to near death.
It was only a few days prior to this cruel deed
that a company in the Harbour grounds have taken in the mixed breed stray –
Charlie - and started to care for him.
The security guards of a neighbouring company disliked the idea and
started shooting at the animal with gas pistols. Charlie then hid himself under a mobile home
on the site. The guards dragged him out
and tied him to a car by the neck with a piece of string then drove off. After about 100 yards they cut him free but
by then he was bleeding heavily from dreadful wounds received. Many of his injuries were to the bone and he
lost a toe. He was skinned in many places.
It took him a day to make his way back to those
who took him in, and a veterinary surgeon was called at once. The vet saw to his injuries and wrote a
report. After stabilising his condition
Charlie was taken to the Szekszárd Animal Clinic and underwent several
operations but his life could not be saved.
He died on 20. June.
The helplessness we, the animals’ defenders
feel at such cruelty cannot be described.
There are too many cases, as Hungarian law only considers such actions
to be misdemeanours, not crimes.
There is a report filed at the Tolna County
Police Station. We have also reported it
to the Notary of the Local Authority.
The National Chambers of Personal and Property Security has received our
report too.
Our charity has started a national campaign of
petitioning Parliament to make torturing of animals a crime in our country and
found a good response from the general public.
Thank you for taking the time to read our
plight and that of the animals in Hungary
